Creating and curating relevant and relatable news, events and resources for the working mom. Here’s the latest from the PowerMom team…
Tia and Tamera Mowry are multi-talented twin sisters who have distinguished themselves in the entertainment field. Each of them is juggling the responsibilities of work and family, just like all mothers do. Now that both of them are working moms, spending time together has become more challenging; however, it is still a priority for the Mowry sisters.
Teen Success with Sister, Sister
The Mowrys’ big break came at age 16 when they were cast in “Sister, Sister.” The TV series focused on twins who had been separated at birth and then reunited as teens. They sang the theme song for the series during its fifth and sixth season, as well as covers for various songs during the show’s run. Tia and Tamera went on to star in several Disney Channel Movies.
Tia: TV Series Star, Cooking Show Host and Cookbook Author
Tia, who describes herself as being more extroverted than her sister, signed on for starring opportunities in several television series, including, “The Game,” Rosewood,” and “Mistresses.” She is the host of the Cooking Channel’s “Tia Mowry at Home.” Tia has been open about having to change her diet after undergoing endometriosis surgery. She took this step to control the condition and successfully become pregnant with her son, Cree. Giving up dairy, sugar and processed foods as a lifestyle change improved her health. Her cookbook, “A Whole New You,” features recipes that require the removal of dairy, sugar and processed foods.
Tamera: Actor, “Real” TV Talk Show Co-Host and Blogger
Tamera appeared in “Family Guy,” “Roommates,” and “Things We Do for Love.” Over the last few years, Tamara has focused on co-hosting “The Real” with Taman Braxton, Jeannie Mai, Loni Love and Adrienne Bailon. She is described by her sister as a person who takes her time sizing up a someone to decide whether they are OK before approaching them. This tendency to be a bit reticent hasn’t held her back from sharing real talk on her website. Tamera’s blog is personal and down to earth, sharing her thoughts and struggles on topics such as building self-confidence, how being a mother of two (son Aden and daughter Ariah) has changed her and tips for dealing with stress.
Sisters and Women Entrepreneurs
Tia and Tamera also continue to collaborate in their work. They formed a production company called “Twilight Productions.” The sisters have co-authored, “Twintuition: Double Vision,” a story about twin sisters who have a powerful, magical gift.
What’s next for these talented business women? Tia has just announced that she will return to the small screen in the CBS comedy, “Me, Myself and I”. Tamara will continue to share her point of view to the diverse opinions of her co-hosts on the talk show “The Real.”
